At minimum, you can take a piece of fine sandpaper and sand the rust off the inside of the lugs. Glass fibre pens or scratch brush pens will do the job, too. These will work great on the spring bars. If you were to get water in the case - with a newer watch it's not really the end of the world (just an expensive headache)- get it to servicing quickly and any surface rust can be removed - the bigger problem is the dials, lume, etc - especially concerning on older watches.
